Lux Interior Dies

I first saw The Cramps at the Agora in columbus Ohio on a hot August night in either 1976 or 1977. I'd gone to theState Fair and seen the Beach Boys put on a decent show then later that night we went to theAgora which always had the cool bands (I's seen the Ramones, Patti Smith, The Cure, Elvis Costello, Iggy Pop,Ronald Koal,Blue Oyster Cult, The Godz and many others there but the Cramps was both memorable and mesmerizing as LuxInterior, their lead singer seemed to embody each song. "Fever", a signature piece, was just amazing. Onstage, Interior was always a proud member of the Iggy Pop school of self-sacrificing showman: climbing all over the stage, stripping down, rolling on the ground, generally showing no regard for his physical well-being. But he also had absolutely nuts timing and some truly great, theatrical facial expressions. He was a showman, not a performance-artist.Enjoy these clips of him performing as his wife plays guitar. Their music influenced many in my generatin. R.I.P.

Wild Wild World of the Cramps
